Our main feature is Golden Bay itself. What with its beautiful beaches and coastline, caves, reserves, springs, artistic environment and unique culture. You must truly visit this enchanting area of New Zealand.

Oh, and while in the Bay, consider staying at the Gazebo Backpackers if you are looking for that laid back, relaxed experience.

Sleeping Areas

The two private rooms are our most popular - especially for couples.

Each room has a large window overlooking a small side garden shielded for privacy by a large hedge.

The Queen room is provided with a desk - perfect for working on the internet or planning the rest of your trip. There is also a closet to hang your garments.

The King room is provided with a superking size bed can be separated into two single beds - making it convenient for either a couple or two individuals who prefer more privacy than a dorm room.

The dorm room has two queen, 1 double and 2 single beds. The large beds are great for any tall people or for a couple on a budget. And there is plenty of space to throw your stuff around and get organised for your next trip.

All beds include clean bedding and linens.

The front garden accommodates 2 or 3 tent sites. Perfect for those on a strict budget who have their own tent and sleeping bag.

And the price includes the use of all the regular house and yard facilities.

Living Room

The living room area includes a home theatre section with a 55" widescreen television and surround sound speakers.

Entertainment includes HD Freeview. A surprisingly large  number of DVD movies and documentaries of all genres are also available.

Quiet hours start at 11PM so you may be required to turn the sound system down at that time so that others can get a peaceful rest. Wireless headphones are available for the occasional night owl.

This is a great place to be if the weather is holding you up or if you just want to veg out.

Kitchen

The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of storage space. There is a walk-in pantry where you will find a variety of free spices and teas. Each guest gets a plastic bin to store their own food.

The hostel is close to a variety of organic food stores and gardens. The house is not vegetarian but vegetarian concerns are accommodated (separate cutting boards, etc.)

The Back Yard

The back yard faces north towards the summer sun and includes plenty of privacy with a sundeck, lounge chairs and a BBQ. Guests can practice yoga in the morning, restfully read a book in the afternoon, or eat a meal in the evening all the same day here.
